Cancelling does not take your documents away.
You keep every file you bought, with your details still in it, and you can still check any of them yourself at the verify desk. What stops is the daily rule-checking, the fixed copy arriving on its own, and your details being filled into anything you buy later. Updates stay free either way: we still tell you when a document you own has been rewritten, and you still get the new copy, same as everyone else. Nothing is held hostage.
